It began with a potato field…
In 2009 my Greek husband and I and his life-long Greek friend and wife bought two adjacent former potato fields on the Greek island of Naxos, a 5 minute walk from the azure Aegean sea. We built two homes and, as is the local custom, named the place Estate An:Theo, a meshing of our two surnames and a translation to English of Greek “K’Tima”. Over the years we created a vineyard, an orchard, gardens, a lifestyle and a community that we, our extended families and our friends grew to love. The luxury of exploring off the beaten tourist track enriched me far beyond what I imagined.
Four years ago, I undertook to learn about our current climate poly-crisis and was shocked into action. At the same time I met the herb Helichrysum, aka Immortelle, aka Curry Plant. It grows wild by the sea on Naxos. Nature truly does give us everything we need. Newly committed to trashing myself and our environment far less, I learned to compound a skin balm using Helichrysum infused in Greek olive oil and blended with local beeswax and organic tamanu oil. My 15 year journey from a potato field to an effective botanical skin balm has been sweet with adventure and discovery.

Personal action does make a difference, especially when you share what you are learning and doing with friends, family and neighbors to encourage them to make changes. Estate An:Theo exists to share my own experiences with living a more Eco-conscious lifestyle. Perhaps you’ll be inspired to make changes, too.
And my skin? People tell me that I glow, that I look better than ever. To hear this at any age is welcome. To hear it at the age of 77, well, it makes me blush.
